Sunshine

February 14th, 2011

What a difference a week makes in the Black Hills! Last weekend we had lots of new, powdery snow. This weekend, we had 50’s and 60’s with warm Chinook (Lakota for “snow eater”) winds. The snow and ice piles are shrinking. Today is warm and 60’s are predicted for the next three days. For the last few days, folks have gotten the motorcycles out of the garage and are enjoying the mild temperatures.

Of course we know it isn’t really spring. Snow flurries are predicted for Friday. However, it’s days like these that make winter easier and spring more enjoyable.

Snow Fun

February 7th, 2011

If you like outdoor winter sports, Spearfish and the Black Hills is the place to be. We had more beautiful white fluffy stuff over the weekend, so pack up your snowmobiles, skis, snow shoes, or snow boards and head for the Hills.

After a fun day outside, relax over a wonderful meal in one of our many great restaurants or cafes. Sip some Spear Beer at the brewery or enjoy a beverage at one of our fine pubs. Spend a restful night in Spearfish.

Then, do it all again the next day! Have some fun in the snow!

“Taste” Great Winter Recreation

January 18th, 2011

It’s a beautiful snowy day. Actually, we’ve had a few of them recently. According to the snow conditions report from Terry Peak, they’ve had 12 inches in the last 72 hours. Sounds like conditions are great for all winter outdoor recreation.

Coming up January 24th from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, we will host the 15th Annual Taste of Spearfish at the City Park Pavilion. This used to be a fall event. There were so many activities happening in the fall, we moved it to a winter event. Come out and sample wonderful food and beverages. So far we have at least 13 food and beverage purveyors signed up.
